compartment sorter
For the price of this item, I was disappointed to find that the shelves were made out of cardboard. Not what I was expecting for the price.
Cheap Quality
The size is good, but the construction is, quite frankly, flimsy. The interior slats are made of cardboard, not wood. There's any number of ways this could be made using sturdier press-board for the interior slots, but Fellows went the cheap-route here.
Also, you would be well advised to purchase some woodworking glue to put this together. The kit includes a tiny vial of glue which, if you're frugal with it, might just barely get you through the installation. Get a small bottle of woodworking glue and save yourself the frustration of running out, halfway through the job.
Other than that, this works. It looks ok. It's fairly costly for what you're getting.

Expensive cardboard
I've never seen a more deceptive photo on Amazon. I had no illusions about receiving a piece of furniture--merely a functional paper-sorter that would sit on the rear of my desktop and prevent the constant slippage of pens, pencils, remote controls, iPods, CD cases, documents, from the back edge of the desk to behind the steam radiator. I expected some sort of "slowly perishable" thin particle wood board, plastic, or cardboard so durably constructed it would obviate the need for synthetic alternatives.
I was hardly prepared for what I received. The thinnest, flimsiest cardboard imaginable, perhaps seeming all the more like a slap in the face because many of the products that arrive through Amazon Prime at a fraction of the price of this object are packaged in cardboard that is twice as thick and durable as this "Fellowes Compartment Literature Sorter." Anyone walking into my office and seeing this silly box on my desk would laugh out loud, and I'd deserve every last derisive chuckle.
This thing is almost too flimsy to return. A "paper paper-sorter" is what it is. It reminds me of the sacrifices we as Americans made during and shortly after World War II when, instead of toy trains made of metal, we received toy trains made of paper. We cut them out of books, didn't complain, and felt we'd been well served. In this case, quite the contrary is true: the customer is completely s....d. The feeling is not totally unlike that of being on the wrong end of an extortion scheme.
I was, in part, "taken" because of a misguided faith in the alleged manufacturer, "Fellowes." Perhaps they deserve some credit for the design but zero for the constituent material and functionality. This is mere 3rd-rate generic cardboard sold by an outfit very close to my digs and importing worthless cardboard all the way from China. If it were five bucks, I could simply toss it. It wouldn't even be deemed an article Salvation Army might sell for a few cents. But for the price I paid, the only reasonable course of action is to try for a refund and, at the very least, make Amazon as well as you, the prospective victim, aware of the discrepancy between the appearance and the reality. (Recommendation: 1. Put a bit more trust in things sold directly by Amazon; 2. Look for wood or plastic in the description of the constituent material; 3. Check out some of the similar products--especially if its for your personal desktop--made by Safco (and sold directly by Amazon).
